SUSTAINABILITY
At Kolibri, sustainability is a fundamental part of our philosophy and business practices. We believe that it is our responsibility to take significant steps every day to make the world of coffee a better place and to contribute positively to the industry.
Sourcing
To select the coffee we really care about the parties involved in the value chain and that is why it is very important for us to partner with farmers and intermediaries (importers/exporters) who share our vision of sustainability and values.
We ethically source the world’s best beans from the tropical highlands and focus on quality, traceability and long-term relationships with farmers, to support their sustainable practices while sharing with our customers the story behind every cup of coffee!
Roasting
Our roasting process is based on the seasonality of the regions to favor freshness and enhance its quality and complexity in the most tasty way.
We use Stronghold, the world’s only 100% electric roaster, as well as the first smart coffee roaster. Its revolutionary design with an exclusive three-way heating system and innovative smart technology allows us to automatically replicate each roast profile precisely.
All operations are backed by solar panels and being electric results in an estimated 60% reduction in the use of natural gas, instead of traditional large gas roasters.
Packing
All Kolibri Coffee bags are 100% recyclable and made from low-density polyethylene (LDPE) and can be easily reused or be deposited in all plastic recycling bins.
Additionally, we use custom boxes for our 250g size, made with 100% recycled cardboard.
Shipping
All our shipments are made only in cardboard boxes and we use kraft paper for the filling. In addition, we also offer coffee in reusable plastic buckets to local wholesale customers.
Saving
Before launching a new coffee on the market, we do several roast tests and some may not meet our quality standards, so we have coffee leftovers.
Although it is not perfect, it is too good to waste, and we’d rather sell it at a lower price than just throw it away. We blend everything and pack it in 1 kg bags that you can get as “blend test” or via too good to go app.
